Create app passwords for Microsoft 365 (Office 365 app password) – Update 2021

The method has changed!

This method has changed.

1. Log in to office.com as an affected user.
2. Click on the initials or the profile picture at the top right.
3. Click on “Show account”. A new tab is opened
4. Security information” is displayed in the left-hand column.
5. Click on “Add method”.
6. Select “App password” from the drop-down list and click ADD
7. Give the app password a name, e.g. “HP Scanner”, and then click NEXT
8. Copy your password to a safe place.

App passwords are required by apps that do not support two-step verification. A typical use case is use on a scanner with a shared mailbox.

You can create an app password on the following page:

https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/AppPasswords.aspx

To set up an app password for a shared mailbox, you must log in with the respective account and then navigate to this page.
