The AI comparison: ChatGPT vs Claude AI – My experience as an IT entrepreneur 4

By Andreas Olbricht, founder of Olbricht IT

After more than two years of intensive use of various AI tools in my IT company, I would like to share my honest experiences with ChatGPT and Claude AI. In this ChatGPT vs Claude AI comparison, I will explain the differences and strengths of both systems. As someone who works with web development, app development and complex IT flows on a daily basis, I have put both systems through their paces.

My love for ChatGPT – and the sobering reality

I admit it: I love ChatGPT. The enthusiasm for this tool was there right from the start. The possibilities seemed endless, the answers came quickly and sounded convincing. But after hundreds of projects, I have to say: the disillusionment came gradually.

The problem of the “trial-and-error spiral”

In my daily work at Olbricht IT, I experience the same pattern with ChatGPT again and again:

Run 1: “Create an HTML code for a responsive navbar with drop-down menu” Result: Code looks good, but doesn’t work properly on mobile devices.

Run 2: “The code does not work on smartphones, please correct” Result: New code, but now the drop-down menus are broken.

Start 3: “Now the dropdowns no longer work…” Result: Another approach, but CSS conflicts arise.

Start-up 4-7: Further corrections, which usually create new problems.

Specific examples from my day-to-day work

Odoo-Teams integration: A customer wanted to forward webhooks from Odoo to Microsoft Teams. ChatGPT delivered seemingly perfect code – after 2 hours of debugging and countless attempts, it became clear that the data formats did not match at all. ChatGPT had simply invented standard JSON structures that neither Odoo nor Teams use.

Power App with NFC: A Power App project for NFC use on iPads was particularly frustrating. ChatGPT developed a complete app architecture including NFC functions – except that iPads have no NFC support at all! This fundamental hardware conflict only became apparent after hours of development.

Website analytics: The biggest problem is when evaluating existing websites. ChatGPT cannot access my clients’ sites and instead invents problems or makes recommendations for non-existent elements.

Claude AI: The game changer for my work

The discovery of Claude AI was a real turning point for me. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s honest.

    What convinced me about Claude

Real website analysis: When I ask Claude to analyze a client’s website, he actually does it. He calls up the page, evaluates the real structure and makes concrete, actionable recommendations. This saves me hours of manual analysis.

Fewer iterations, better results: For a recent CSS optimization project, I only needed 2 attempts with Claude instead of the usual 8-10 with ChatGPT. The code was cleaner and worked right from the start.

Precise error detection: Claude admits when he doesn’t know something instead of guessing. This may seem less “helpful”, but it saves me time and frustration.

Practical example: SEO audit for customer project

With ChatGPT: “Analyze this site for SEO issues” Result: General recommendations based on common issues, but not on the actual site.

With Claude: Concrete analysis of the real meta tags, loading times, structure and specific suggestions for improvement for exactly this website.

    🔄 The ChatGPT trial-and-error spiral

    1 😊 Hoffnung 2 🤔 Verwirrung 3 😐 Zweifel 4 😤 Ärger 5 😩 Frust 6 😡 Wut 7+ 🤯 Verzweiflung Frustrations-Level steigt ➤
💡 Attempt 1-2: “Looks good!” – Code compiled, first hope rises
⚠️ Attempt 3-4: First tests fail, “small fixes” create new problems
😤 Trial 5-7: Frustration increases, back to start – basic assumption was wrong
💸 Result: 2+ hours wasted, 50% success rate, infinite patience required

My pragmatic solution: the hybrid workflow

After two years of testing, I developed my optimal workflow:

ChatGPT vs Claude AI comparison: An overview of the two systems

    Phase 1 – Brainstorming: ChatGPT

    • Brainstorming for project approaches
    • Quick prototypes and mockups
    • Content creation for websites
    • Image generation for customer projects

Phase 2 – Analysis and planning: Claude

    • Website audits for existing customers
    • Competitor analyses
    • Technical evaluations of existing systems
    • SEO strategy development

Phase 3 – Development: Mainly Claude

    • Clean HTML/CSS code
    • Complex JavaScript functions
    • API integrations
    • Debugging and optimization

Phase 4 – Content and design: ChatGPT

    • Texts for websites
    • Social media content
    • Design assets and icons

My honest conclusion after 2 years with AI

ChatGPT is still my favorite when it comes to creative tasks or quick ideas. I still love the tool – but I’ve also learned to accept its limitations. Blind faith? Not anymore.

Claude has become my reliable workhorse. Not quite as flashy, but extremely precise – especially for customer projects where accuracy is important.

My tips for you as an IT colleague:

    • Test everything: No matter which AI you use – no code belongs in production untested.
    • Combine cleverly: Use the strengths of both tools. They complement each other perfectly.
    • Stay critical: question what the AI is telling you – especially with ChatGPT.
    • Document your experiences: Record what went well and what didn’t. This will save you a lot of time later on.

Conclusion: AI tools are great helpers – but they don’t replace your thinking, your expertise or your experience. At Olbricht IT, we have greatly improved our efficiency with AI. But only because we have learned to use it consciously and strategically.

Do you want to use AI sensibly in your company?
